From Outreach to Equity: Innovative Models of Library Policy and Practice

Author: Robin Osborne (ed.), Carla D. Hayden (foreword)
Organization: Office for literacy and outreach services
Publisher: American Library Association (June 30, 2004)

This title reflects a shift in outreach from serving the underserved to providing equity of access and service in a variety of library settings to all patrons. The book's six parts cover services outside library walls, outreach inside the library, outreach using information technology, technical services, advocacy, and outreach and staff development. Between six and eight essays in each part offer models of different service approaches. Though each essay's focus may differ, they all recognize that outreach efforts help ensure that anyone can use the library or information source. With a foreword by past ALA president Carla D. Hayden, the book truly expresses the initiative that was the cornerstone of her presidency: true equity of access for all. Patricia Hogan
