The American Place

The American Place is a free library service of Hartford Public Library for immigrants and refugees. Our goal is to help to adjust to life in America while preserving elements of the native culture.

IMMIGRATION FORUMS
Stay current! Immigration lectures, are regularly scheduled to provide information about various immigration topics, e.g. relative petitions, adjustment of status, public assistance, etc. (Interpretation into other languages.)

SELF-STUDY
Study on your own schedule and at your own pace, using a wide range of self-study resources: computer programs, DVDs, and CDs. Materials are available for studying on-site or for borrowing and studying at home. Staff is available to assist you in your selection.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Learn about the challenges and issues facing Hartford’s immigrants and refugees, and improve your knowledge of Hartford’s diverse cultures.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES
Weekends and weeknights
Classes start three times a year: September for the fall session; January for the winter session; and June for the summer session.
